Thank you Jeff & Cody for a job well done repairing/patching the area where the street meets our driveway! This is my first time using UReport. I did not expect such a quick response to the UReport I submitted Friday evening. Your courteous & polite personalities represent the City of Bloomington well! I very much appreciate all you do! Thanks again! Lori Brenner

For years I have problems with my neighbor's trash in my yard. His cans are on Habitat Street, his own private dump, despite a City Ordinance prohibiting it. He does not empty his trashcans, he does not cover them; animals take trash to nearby yards and other parts of City property.
In the past, Wykoff was not helpful, and Mayor Kruzan was not interested, and the police had other priorities.
Recently it has bounced around in City bureaucracy for months: HAND, the Street Department, back to HAND, over to Title VI, back to HAND, and back to the Street Department, which they will not enforce the Ordinance. Trash still appears in my yard.
There must be organizational and management issues, but the results are the same: no solutions. The appearance is either incompetence or corruption.
I am tired of the run-around; I have lost the use of my property and it's full value. I just want the cans moved back on his property, away from mine. If the cans are not a real problem, then they can not be a real problem on his own property. The next escalation goes to the Police Department, the Herald-Times, or the Courts.

there are porch couches at 611 and 616 n Washington. why can't HAND enforce city ordinances to have these removed?

I recently attended a peaceful protest downtown for the Black Lives Matter movement. The Mayor gave a very nice and well received speech on the courthouse lawn. I have found that this speech has since been posted to YouTube where I have had the chance to listen to it again. During his speech he spoke about transparency at all levels in local Government. The Mayor also made mention of the fact that window tint was being removed from all Police cars in order to promote this. I believe that this was a step in the right direction. Yet despite this, I still have seen administrators at the Department getting in and out of their cars while I walk to class and while they are driving around town with window tint still on their Police cars. Why has the window tint not been removed from these Police vehicles despite the fact that the Mayor wants complete and total transparency and these are people that should be some of the most transparent ones out there? Thank you.

It is almost impossible to find a Section 8 home in this town. I hear its because there is so much money to be made off housing here. I want to know where I can find a decent home for my child and I to live. I've been looking for a decent home for almost 2 years now. I'm a great tenant, pay my rent on time, keep a clean home, and stay quiet. Despite these things, I can't find a home because we are low income. Where do I find a place to live in this town?!

Nothing urgent, but I walk past the lawn at City Hall each day and see ways that it could be "greener".
- The crews mow at a very low height. If grass is mowed higher the blades shade the soil, keeping the roots cooler and more healthy. It also keeps sunlight from hitting the soil, which prevents weed seeds from germinating, which reduces the need for pesticides.
- The crews remove the clippings. Using a mulching mower returns the clippings to the lawn system, reducing the need for fertilizer. It's also less work to not have to empty the mower bag.
- The grass was mowed yesterday. Today (Friday 5/18) much of the lawn has a silvery color to it. If you look at the grass blades in these areas you'll see that the tips are shredded instead of being cleanly cut. This means that the mower blade is so dull that it's ripping rather than cutting. The shredded grass blades are more susceptible to disease than cleanly cut ones.
Just my 2 cents, thanks for listening,
Rich Pierce

I am here to report AGAIN a safety issue on E Hillside Dr, between S Henderson St and S Park Ave. There is a tree branch that has been laid on top of the street for almost ONE YEAR! Please remove the falling branch before it actually falls on the street and damages cars and pedestrians.
