1206 S Woodlawn AVE

Case Date:
9/10/2022

I am requesting that a speed bump and a flashing speed indicator be installed in a location along W Woodlawn Ave, somewhere between S Weatherstone Ln and E Wilson St. The speed limit on S Woodlawn Ave is 25 MPH, but the average vehicle's speed in front of my approximate address is closer to 45 MPH, with many vehicles regularly reaching speeds over 60 MPH and even 80 MPH at least daily. The reason why the speed limit is 25 MPH on S Woodlawn Ave is because of its proximity to Indiana University foot and bike commuters, Bryan Park, the Bryan Park Pool, a bus stop, and Union Elementary School. In addition to these elements, S Woodlawn Ave is also hilly which contributes to dangers associated with limited lines of sight between vehicles and pedestrians. Being a thoroughfare between Hillside Ave and streets north of it, traffic naturally flows faster than 25 MPH especially with the only stop sign between 1st St and Hillside Ave being at Sheridan Ave. Drivers frequently “floor” their vehicles through S Woodlawn Ave, and the police speed enforcement seems to never pull anyone over for speeding. For the above reasons, the current traffic pattern on S Woodlawn Ave is incompatible with its intended use. Installing a speed bump and a flashing speed indicator (for both northbound and southbound traffic) will hopefully greatly reduce thoroughfare excessive speeds. I am worried that this is a formula for someone to get hurt and it is only a matter of time unless the City does something about this. Please at least conduct a traffic study. Thank you for receiving my note, and I will be following up on this.

Walkers need a pedestrian crossing signal and equally important, Pete Ellis road to hospital must complete its sidewalk all the way to this intersection. We walk to the hospital and here must walk in the street, where employees and patients sometimes race home to 10th St., not expecting walkers in the street. Help! It may be IU property that needs the sidewalk. Please muscle them to do so. Thank you!

Park Ridge East's traffic calming signs acquired through HAND have been destroyed repeatedly. Greenway improvements are to take place 2024 we are told? But any shortening of that timeline would be greatly appreciated. There is high speed, cut-through traffic, and people who desperately need something more than a plastic sign to convince them to drive safely.

Hello. If there is a better way to provide input please let the neighborhood know but we learned that self storage is going into Park Ridge East on Morningside. The industry is low-income predatory and operates on a model that intends for low engagement. This is the opposite for what should be at the intersection of a Greenway (Longview) and a major road (3rd). Surely there are more industrial locations for the city suited for such a business. It is not true commerce (which would be awesome in that area) but is "set it and forget it" investing. Ugly, wasteful, and most importantly the wrong choice for the location. Definitely build something, but something that people will regularly access and use.

E Morningside Drive continues to have heavy speeders, even if most people fine. Multiple neighbors have requested traffic calming for years. Kids almost hit again today. For the people living on the road please do something.

210a N Smith Rd, Bloomington, IN 47408, USA

Can the City PLEASE do something about slowing down traffic on East Morningside through Park Ridge East. I think nearly every resident on the block has complained, particularly those with kids. It can be speed bumps, but can be anything else too, raised garden beds in the street periodically, rumble strips, anything. But it's getting worse now that traffic backs up past the stop sign more regularly now at Smith and Morningside between 3rd and Morningside because of limited lanes at the intersection with highway construction. So cars when backed beyond the stop sign are speeding through the neighborhood as a shortcut to get back to 3rd/highway. Any help is super appreciated. Please reach out to the neighborhood association if helpful, or honestly knock on any of our doors on E Morningside and we'd be happy to provide input as those living on the street are most affected. If you want a handful of names of supporters, let us know, but in short it's a residential street that is full of bikers and walkers and the neighborhood is largely contained so doesn't need a highway through it on Morningside. We welcome any sort of E/W B-line that we've heard about or anything else that isn't fast cars. Thank you! It also goes right by the park! Oh, we did want to say thank you for the new tennis benches at the park though! Folks across the city use those courts, so they'll come in handy!

Hello. We received notice that our street is looking at a traffic calming preapplication. It appears criteria include items such as police reports. Though that sort of data is important please please consider that reality is beyond just what the data paint. We pushed two cars out that drove into our yard in the snow already this week on east morningside and just now noticed another individual going much much too fast down the road while texting. Please look at the experiences of those who live on the street, complaints, maybe even photos households have, and otherwise solicit input of residents on the affected possible roads for improvements. Thank you.

Please speed monitor or alter/enhance 7th/Longview Greenway for greater biker/pedestrian safety. Lots of unnecessary quick cutthrough traffic from Summerhouse in particular.

I just want to say we are SOOOO excited for the east-west 7-line and can't wait until it expands east of campus to neighborhoods, but still neat to see the progress for now! Please keep prioritizing this important spoke.

I have called the Planning Office 3 times recently and left messages. NO ONE returns calls. I am trying to find out if you can have 2 tiny houses on your city lot? This is the back of 917 N Fairview Street taken from my Mom's house at 912 N Maple. THANKS!
