We have a gigabit line install over the city sidewalk, easement. Installed by axis solutions Nov 25th. This is a heavily used sidewalk near mailboxes and we have two blind residents that use this pathway. There is a hello flag but no safety ramp, cones or other alerts that might deter a blind person. It's not a well lit area and is a tripping hazard. Please call at your earliest convenience, 812.650.8740 to offer solutions.

Street & Traffic Signs

1320 W Bloomfield RD

Case Date:

I'm curious what the possibility of reducing the speed limit on Bloomfield is? From my observation biking and driving that road daily (I live off Basswood), 40 mph starting just west of Adams seems too fast for such a narrow lane with a lot of drives and high deer crossing further west approaching the highway. I've often seen people fly up the hill between Landmark and Cory and slam on their breaks because they couldn't see the traffic stopped ahead. Not sure how you determine speed limits. I'm also curious of a deer crossing sign could be placed along Bloomfield (between Twin Lakes Recreation Center and I-69) - I bike that road everyday and there's a new dead deer every week or so. I know people stop looking at/get desensitized to signs, but it just seems to appropriate to put a deer sign there. Thanks for all you do!

Utilities Construction

There is a broken utility cover in this area, leaving a hole in the ground. I have placed a cone over the top of the hole to try to prevent anyone from accidentally stepping into the hole. It needs to be repaired ASAP. It appears to me to be a telecommunication type box that was recently installed during the City’s Fiber installation.

I’m replying to this ticket and message: https://bloomington.in.gov/crm/tickets/view?ticket_id=206800 Closed by Driss Tahir At this time, the City no longer maintains individual painted parking space lines on residential streets. These markings are not required for parking regulation, and our maintenance program focuses on regulatory and safety related pavement markings such as crosswalks, stop bars, centerlines, and ADA parking. Parking is still permitted along the block, and vehicles may continue to park as usual. If you have any questions or concerns about access, visibility, or safety, feel free to reach back out. Thank you! Thank you for the clarification. I understand that individual residential parking lines are no longer part of the City’s regular pavement-marking program. However, I would like to request a safety and visibility review for our block, based on the guidance you mentioned about access, visibility, and safety concerns. The fading of these lines has created some issues for our immediate neighbors that fit these categories and affect our street’s access and safety. It should be noted that this particular street is quite narrow and is a two-way street. The pavement markings serve a significant purpose on the street. Here are some additional details I’d like you to consider: 1. We have an elderly neighbor who relies on clearly defined parking space boundaries. When cars drift into the space in front of her home, it can block their access or require her to walk farther than she needs to. 2. Several small children live and play on this part of the street. Without visible parking lines, cars often park farther out into the street than before, reducing sightlines and making it harder for drivers to see children entering or exiting vehicles. 3. We have multiple college student renters on the block. Turnover and unfamiliarity with the street lead to inconsistent spacing and irregular parking patterns. This sometimes reduces the usable width of the street and narrows driving lanes. Given these access and safety considerations, would it be possible for the Traffic Division to assess whether refreshed pavement markings would improve visibility and organization on this block? I appreciate your time and your help in keeping the neighborhood safe.

Traffic Related Complaints

Alpha Gamma Delta

Case Date:

Multiple student have been hit and some hospitalized from trying to walk across this very dangerous intersection. Students use this crosswalk many times everyday and also at night. The lack of lighting, signs, stop lights, and increased drivers that aren't paying attention makes this issue urgent. As a current member and resident of the Alpha Gamma Delta house I use this crosswalk multiple times every day and rely on it to get me safely from one place to another. It is very frustrating to have seen all of these accidents happen and no solution being worked on for this humongous problem. Please add a stoplight or some sort of safety mechanisms. 1 accident was already enough, but now multiple is just outrageous.

Maybe it is just me, but it seems like installing signs and marking the new speed bumps on S. Washington would be a smart idea. The bumps that were installed blend in perfectly to the existing pavement, the paint is woefully inadequate to be visible under any conditions, and there are no signs indicating that there are bumps. People are being taken for quite the ride thanks to another phenomenal job by the city with a poorly implemented traffic calming device.
