City Performance

Case Date:
7/23/2018

A copy of an email I just sent - CITY OF BLOOMINGTON LEGAL DEPARTMENT: I just picked up two DVDs from the Legal Department of the City of Bloomington today, and I specifically asked WHAT computer program will play them. The woman who took my payment asked someone else in the office while I was down the hall paying the fee and she told me, "The program that plays it is already loaded on it." NO IT ISN'T!! I'm at the main library trying to get both of these DVDs to play, and NEITHER OF THEM WILL. Why are you withholding the correct information from me? How come when a citizen comes to get EVIDENCE of wrongdoing by other citizens or by public employees she is given DVDS that can't easily be played, viewed and listened to on a common public computer? This happened with the VERY FIRST DVDs I got from you two years ago, even before I got the Protective Order against Georg Smith. I couldn't play those DVDs either. One guy at the library had a laptop that HAPPENED to have that computer program on it, and I saw one video but never heard it. I haven't been able to view it since. SO I'M ASKING YOU AGAIN - WHAT EXACT PROGRAM PLAYS THESE THINGS - AND WHAT COMPUTERS IN TOWN HAVE THAT PROGRAM LOADED? IF YOU CAN'T FIND ANY OTHER COMPUTERS WITH THESE PROGRAMS, THEN I'LL HAVE TO SCHEDULE TIME TO COME INTO YOUR OFFICE TO USE YOUR COMPUTERS. I HAVE TO SEE THIS IMMEDIATELY TO PREPARE FOR A COURT HEARING. These videos are EVIDENCE in several legal cases. Not giving me clear answers and this information can only be concluded to be obstruction of justice. In the meantime, I'm going to alert the judge in one of my cases that I'm not getting cooperation and playable videos from the CIty of Bloomington. It's the truth. Please reply today and tell my how you're going to fix this problem. I need to view literally 15 videos of Georg Smith violating the Protective Order, and about 4 more of other idiots in this town who've committed BATTERY against me, who can't drive a bus safely, and who've failed to keep the roads safe, causing me injury. If you don't get me the right answers your city is going to be famous for making this problem for people. I guess I'll have to propose a law to the City Council that any and all public records have to be provided in an EASILY VIEWABLE FORMAT. After all, when you get Police Reports from the Police Department, they print them in English on standard 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper. They don't encrypt it in some obscure code. Why would you want to make it difficult for anybody? I've already been through enough abuse in this town - why do you want to add to it? You cause me MORE suffering THAT I DON'T NEED. Please get me my information TODAY. And if you don't like the idea of my using YOUR computers... I HAVE TO VIEW MY DVDS FOR COURT, so you may have to make some adjustments. I've repeatedly asked for this information over the months, and I'm out of patience.

Accessibility Problem

Case Date:
8/20/2018

My friend, who uses a wheelchair for mobility, and I went to the Office Lounge on Saturday night. While the building is accessible the bathrooms are not. The door was not wide enough for him to enter and he has a small manual chair. A larger motorized wheelchair would not fit either. The manager apologized and offered to clear the women's bathroom, but he had already looked at the door and determined it was not wide enough either. Besides that, I don't think offering another genders bathroom would count as accessibility? I know the OL has been around a long time and I assume there is some grandfathering of pre-accessibility guidelines, but at some point don't they have to come "up to code"? Is that only if they do renovations? How long can they remain un-accessible? I hope there is someone who can address this issue because we would like to be able to visit the OL again, but will not if he can't use the restroom while there. Thank you for your help!

Parking Meters and Citations

Case Date:
8/30/2018

We parked in parkikng zone 7653 yesterday (Aug. 29) from 3:20-4:20 pm. We tried to put in a $1 coin, but the machine didn't take, so we used quarters instead. The quarters worked, so we tried the $1 coin again, but the machine ate it again. Is there any way we can get our $2 back? I tried calling the office and they transferred me to the person who could issue a credit back, but no one answered the call and the voicemail hadn't been set up yet, so I couldn't leave a message. I appreciate your help.

Parks & Playgrounds

Case Date:

Many of humans at the Ferguson Dog Park do not know how to use the T-valve to turn on the water, or that spray will cool and clean their dog. Please post instructions, or use a magic marker to point the way.

Can the City please do something to encourage Kroger to use or sell the eastside Marsh. A corporation buying a building and keeping it empty intentionally to dissuade competition is not cool. Please forward to Mayor's office so he knows residents do not want a large building sitting empty unfairly. Thank you. Other Cities have found solutions to such behaviors.

10/11/2018 Extraordinarily loud concert going on over here on the eastside, apparently permitted by mayor's office? If so, unconscionable. This is a residential neighborhood, young children, people up early for work. I'm at least a half mile from the site and can easily hear it in my house. Will be contacting councilperson about this as well.

Traffic Suggestions

Case Date:
10/30/2018

We have repeatedly asked for a traffic signal at the corner of 14th and Walnut, because of the number of traffic and pedestrian accidents over many years. Neil Kopper, Project Engineer, told us that a traffic light was not going to happen, but he would get a pedestrian crossing, which we thought would come with flashing lights like at the corner of Rogers and 4th Street (a street crossing not in the center of town and with a lot less traffic than the main street, Walnut). However, all that was done was to paint a pedestrian crossing across Walnut at the corner of 14th and Walnut with white posts on the West side of Walnut, cutting into traffic. And, the pedestrian crosswalk was painted at the corner of College and 14th Street with white posts installed on both sides of the street making it extremely hard to make the corners. Especially as CVS's fence blocks the view from the North. Cars have to back up on 14th Street when a car wants to turn East from College. So, the very least the City of Bloomington can do to slow the downhill traffic in this area, without putting in a stop light, is to install some speed limit signs. There are NO speed limit traffic signs from 2nd Street all the way North to 17th Street. Cars drag race in excess of 40 to 60 mph there most every day, because it is downhill, not up hill like College. You have no stop lights from 10th Street to 17th Street. We would like a flashing speed limit sign that tells how fast you are going installed at 14th and Walnut. The type that is installed around schools. And, there is a Monroe County School bus stop at that corner with very young children getting on and off the bus. Also, there is a City bus that stops at the corner of 14th and Walnut. This all creates potential harm to children and bus passengers by the speeding cars. If no action is ever taken at 14th and Walnut, the City is potentially putting themselves into a law suit if someone gets killed or injured there because of the failure of the city to post the speed limit that they are required to go. The city has allowed high rise housing along the corridor of 10th to 17th street on Walnut, and on street parking to support this very high density area. This action, along with the bike lane, has narrowed the road and cars exceeding the speed limit have no way to avoid an accident. Our police department is so busy they do not have the opportunity to patrol this area on a regular basis for speeders. And, since we cannot get a traffic light installed, this request is the very least that can be done to make our city safer in this area.

Traffic Related Complaints

Case Date:
2/2/2019

Just south of the railroad bridge over N College, cars are routinely parked in the bike lane, requiring cyclists to swerve into the car lane to get around the parked car. This is dangerous! Please repaint the yellow curb. If you can't because of the weather, please post a temporary no-parking sign there until you can. Thanks!
