Hello, there is a massive issue with drivers running red lights and stop signs in this city. I have marked a particularly bad intersection (Madison and 11th), however this issue is city-wide. The included intersection has a wall on the bridge that prevents vehicles from seeing around the corner to 11th street, which often means that people just roll right through the stop sign. I've been almost T-boned at this intersection multiple times, and I genuinely fear I may die there some day. I have already been hit once by someone ignoring traffic laws on Third Street, and have almost been hit on foot and in my vehicle countless times downtown. It has gotten to the point where I am afraid to travel around the city. There should be traffic cameras on the stop lights, and more aggressive fines to deter these people casually ignoring safety and traffic laws. I understand that it is hard to enforce stop signs, however I have witnessed (on multiple occasions) police patrol vehicles allowing people to run right through 4-way stops, and some even do it themselves. People are learning that there are absolutely no consequences for driving recklessly around the city, and it has gotten noticeably worse. Please, consider taking action about the extremely unsafe traffic situation in our city.

Street & Traffic Signs

701 N Maple ST

Most all of Maple Street is marked as No Parking, except a short distance before it intersects with 11th street. 2-3 cars consistently park in that short distance, fully occupying the right side of the road. Cars turning onto Maple from 11th cannot see when a car is approaching the intersection on Maple, and the cars on Maple are forced to stop on the opposite side of the road, causing near miss accidents daily and excessive honking. I would like to request that the “No Parking” zone be extended all the way to the stop sign as all residences (including the apartments in the photo) have designate parking areas. The intersection is also frequented by school and city busses, causing even more danger.

See case #188527. Garbage still piled up against house. Tenants do not seem to care about warnings or small fines. Can the fines be associated with their water bill so that it gets turned off if they do not pay?

Excessive Growth

There is a utility pole at the SW corner of this property (by the alley) that is completely covered in vines, most, perhaps all of which are poison ivy. The vines are right next to the alley and tenant parking lot and are so high up (25+ feet) that the vine is going to seed. Is this the responsibility of the adjacent property owner, or do the utility companies maintain their poles? If the latter, do we have to wait the 5-year cycle for them to come by and do the trimming, or will they come by if someone requests it? And if so, how do we contact the utility which bears the responsibility?

Abandoned Vehicle

Light blue Prius with windows rolled down is parked in the yellow zone on the corner of West Seventh and Maple and has been parked there for over 72 hours. It is also in a yellow zone. Thank you!

Nuisance Lights

810 N Lincoln ST

New street lamp on SE corner of 12th/Lincoln is WAY too bright, much brighter and whiter than the normal orange-ish lamps on other street light fixtures in the neighborhood. This one emits a lot of glare, blinding drivers as they attempt to navigate 12th Street, and causing pain if one happens to look directly at it. Worse, it casts light far beyond the actual intersection, flooding the houses in the vicinity with unwanted light all night long, preventing people from enjoying their porches in the evenings and early mornings. If the City refuses to switch the light to a normal soft light that can be tolerated, it seems reasonable that the light can at the very least be shaded so that the intense glare is only directed downward rather than flooding the neighbors' homes in all directions with unnatural, unhealthy, and offensive light. A similar lamp was recently installed at the 12th/Dunn intersection. The people who live near that intersection are probably experiencing a similar, unwelcome annoyance.

Blocked Street

810 W 7th ST

The North/South alley between 810 W. 7th and 804 W. 7th is being encroached upon by gardens, woodpiles, trees/vegetation and possibly the fence and cinder block garage owned by 810 W 7th St. As a result, the alley traffic is being diverted outside of the alley right of way and onto the private property located at 804 W. 7th. This appears to have been going on for a number of years. As the new owner of 804 W. 7th St., it is my full intention to re-claim the property/property line currently being encroached upon and proceed with renovations. I request that the Street Dept contact the owner of 810 W. 7th and order the encroachments be removed. With the assistance of a surveyor, I have located the NW and SW corner pins delineating the right of way and pounded new T posts just outside of the right of way in those spots and plan to post the entire property line once the encroachments are removed. Were I to reclaim the property line today, the alley would become impassible due to said encroachments. I request your assistance in remedying this situation in a civil and legal manner, as requests to the homeowner of 810 W.7th have fallen upon deaf ears. I request that you keep me in the loop regarding this issue. I would be happy to meet with a representative of the street dept, with survey in hand, to assist in clarifying and remedying this issue, as renovations of 804 W. 7th will begin in a few weeks. Once again, the section of West 11th st between Adams St and Fountain Dr has become a speedway. Drivers CD are absolutely flying down the road. Captain Pedigo, I know you are stretched thin when it comes to number of officers, but could you do your best to set up radar sometime on this section of road? Our neighborhood would truly appreciate it.

People are living year-round in an RV parked on an unimproved surface at 220 S. Maple Street. They have been there for about 18 months. I previously reported them to H.AN.D. and the city's legal department. There are also 3-5 other cars parked in the small property lot at all times. The man is apparently fixing cars for others. Various articles and garbage bags are often strewn about. Their has been many domestic violence and nuisance reports to the police and fire department during this time.
