When heading east on Covenanter, the signal at College Mall does not recognize bikes. If a cyclist is attempting to cross and there are no cars ahead or behind them, they have to wait through multiple signals until a car comes to activate the sensor. Covenanter is part of a marked bikeway for the city, which makes this situation all the more frustrating.
Missing bike route sign?
Have reported this before, never got an answer. I was told it was something to do with the city and guard rail study. The trail at this location is below the grade of the road on Moores Pike. I requested evaluation for a guard rail to protect walkers from a car leaving the road and rolling over the hill. This is a high speed road and it is very unnerving to walk along this trail. Send someone out and stand there to see what I mean.

The problem exists at the intersection of E. Arden Dr. and S. High St. There is a 4 way stop there. People driving on High St. regularly run this stop sign, even when there is a car on Arden Dr. that has the right of way. There have been many close calls there. This is also an intersection where families and children cross High St. on their way to Southeast Park. Something needs to be done to discourage cars from running the stop sign on High St. before someone gets hurt.
The corner of Moores Pike and Claris currently has flashing Yellow lights to help pedestrians cross Moores Pike. Drivers view yellow lights as a call to speed up not Stop. I walk there frequently but cars seldom slow or stop Sometimes the cars speed up, either to beat the light or to run over me. Perhaps it would help to change the lights to red which means Stop. Or install a regular stop light. Also, at the Southeast corner of Hillside Dr and College Mall Rd. The crossing light turns on when the vehicles turn right from Sare Rd onto Hillside Dr. This is very dangerous for the pedestrian since the corner is not visible to the cars turning right. The new bump outs on East Allen are incomplete and insufficient. Cars are zooming by kids walking and on bicycles. There needs to be brightly colored curb in addition to the tall reflective posts that were there before. Fix this quick before a kid gets hit!
3-4 large dogs in fenced in back yard. Dog waste accumulates and smells so bad that the neighbors can't sit outside. Complainants say they have called animal control several times. HAND has also referred 3 previous complaints to animal control with no response. JIM: Please let me know if this is something we can address (or need to, based on investigating the complaint) through BMC & Animal control or if it has to become a civil matter between the neighbors.
