Unsafe Buildings

619 W Smith AVE

Case Date:
1/2/2017

I am not sure what the owner of this building has planned, but it seems there has seem some slow work done to the house since my husband and I have bought and renovated our home a year and a half ago. In this time, we have seen animals come and go from this abandoned house, seemingly homeless people come and go from the basement and the windows boarded up. This home is in utter disarray. With so many homes in the prospect hill area being renovated and maintaining the historical feel, this is one of the few if not the only home that is a major eye sore on our neighborhood. I am not sure if there can be anything done legally to motivate the owner to do renovations more quickly or to just tear it town. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated to address this problem. Thank you very much for your time and consideration!

I have always had positive experiences with all members of the Sanitation Department, but this past year, in particular, I have had extremely positives experiences. Not only have the team members been thorough, timely, and respectful, but everyone has been SO friendly! The team doesn't hold back on the smiles, waves, and well-wishes. I cannot say enough positive about the Sanitation team (yard waste, recycling, trash) that comes through the Winslow Farms/Sweetbriar neighborhood. Thank you so very much and please pass along my appreciation!

Parking Permits

Case Date:
12/29/2016

Hi there, I live in an apartment complex in Elm Heights and have a question regarding the street parking on south side of 2nd street between Henderson and Fess where the Elm Heights Bloomingfoods used to be. Currently, the signs state that the parking is 2 hours, which made sense when the building was in use. However, neighborhood parking on the surrounding streets is pretty tight during the majority of weekdays when IU is in session. Unfortunately, there have been times when I have had to make use of these 2 hour spots due to the lack of availability of street parking near my dwelling and have been subsequently ticketed. Is there any specific reason why these spots are still being enforced with a 2 hour limit even though Bloomingfoods went out of business? Is there any way the 2 hour limit could be removed for those that display a neighborhood zone permits until a new tenant is found for the building? I understand that I am responsible for the fees incurred by my violation for this current 2 hour policy, but fail to understand why it is being maintained so aggressively given the fact that the reason for implementing the 2 hour street parking (accessibility for Bloomingfoods customers) is no longer valid. Thank you for your time.
