When will the assault on the south side of Bloomington traffic patterns stop? The attached photo shows the current problem: far right side, the detour signs for the two CLOSED north/south routes (Walnut Street Pike & Rogers). And the orange barrels show that Walnut is under construction as well. Today, at 3:15pm, it took approximately 20 minutes to travel from Lucky's Market at Walnut and Winslow to Kroger at Walnut and Gordon Pike. That is 1 mile in 20 minutes - an incredible 3mph speed! Although, in all fairness to that calculation, most of the time was spent at a standstill. This mess comes on the heels of last summer's mess when the City decided to close every east/west route in town (which, those are still only somewhat complete). What's next? One might argue there was no planning involved, but it seems like the coincidence of shutting down every road at once multiple years in a row is a coordinated effort, not random happenings. Disdain is too weak of a word. Can the City get its act together and not hog tie traffic every single summer? Or, at least add some capacity so when it opens back up more traffic can move? None of these projects have yielded any actual improvements in traffic - or, maybe we just can't realize it because when one road opens two more close.

Hi, New York resident, from Michigan, educated in Ann Arbor, just read the NY Times piece on the arrest at the Farmers' Market of the IU prof protesting the "white supremacists". Might I please commend the members of the Bloomington Police for their conduct that day and every day. You make me proud. We were the anti-Vietnam generation. Years without a culture of Lessons Learned, only affluence, has given a culture that doesn't work together. You must police a culture of opinions + orifices that does not build a thing except a self-image. Know that we need you and walk with you. You strengthen me to do my part to build the nation you protect. May God bless you. We are with you.

This is not an issue, however, I'm wanting to find out who I need to speak with regarding hosting a yoga event/class at one of the city parks, Olcott Park to be specific. I would not require the use of any picnic tables/shelters, and would just like to be able to use a grassy area to hold a yoga class. It would like be on a Friday evening, during park hours, but fairly late, around twilight. Do I need to get special approval for this, and if so, who should I speak with? The lack of shoulders on the roads is a serious problem in Bloomington. I have lived in a number of cities across the US and Bloomington is the first city I've seen that has very few (if any?) shoulders on the roads. This is unbelievably problematic - if someone has car trouble they can't pull off to the side, if you are dropping someone off you can't just pull off to the side, if I receive a phone call I can't pull over, if riding a bicycle you can't ride along the side.... there are a fair number (surely more than is acceptable) of bike and scooter accidents in Bloomington, and this can largely be attributed to lack of shoulders on roads.
