There appears to be a small homeless camp in the backyard behind the unoccupied house with a tent and two abandoned vehicles. The house itself has been vacant for many years and none of the people staying there seem to be entering the home. A relative of the people who own the house, a man named Bob, began staying in the backyard over a year ago, but he has since left and other people are now staying there in his absence. Recently, neighbors have found human feces and needles in their yard nearby, creating sanitary concerns, as well as heard a woman yelling in what sounded like distress at night. Outreach to the family of the property owner has not been successful so far, so I’m hoping someone could please look into this situation. Thank you!

Subject: Concern About Clogged Storm Drains on 1st Street Dear Bloomington Town Official, I am reaching out regarding an ongoing issue with leaves clogging the above-ground grated storm drains along 1st Street, between Henderson and Grant Streets. I previously reported this concern a few weeks ago, but the problem has reappeared due to the continued accumulation of leaves. The situation seems to have worsened following Bloomington's policy change to no longer collect unbagged leaves. As a result, many residents are no longer raking, and the town has become noticeably untidy. These clogged drains pose a significant risk of flooding when it rains, creating potential hazards for our community. I kindly ask for prompt attention to clear these drains and consider ways to address the broader issue of leaf accumulation to maintain the town’s cleanliness and prevent future drainage problems. uReport ID #180633 and #180632 both show they were assigned to Mallory Rickbeil. My understanding is that she quit her job with the City and left town. She is still listed in the City of Bloomington staff directory though. Maybe the City needs to do a little cleanup on the system. Or maybe I am mistaken about her status of employment. Whichever turns out to be true, I just wanted to make sure those rReports got to someone and did not sit in the inbox of a non-existent City employee. Thanks.

The City is not the top place to work. Perhaps your organization once was but not any longer. People are unhappy. They talk constantly about it and then they leave. Worst work culture I have ever experienced. Even if you keep putting out there how great of an employee you are, we know. It stinks of MAGA nonsense to just keep repeating something that is blatantly false.

Greetings. I'm aware that the Lime scooters have a barcode with a unique identifier on them. This is akin to a VIN that vehicles have and which Parking Enforcement uses to issues tickets. I imagine the other shared-use motorized scooter company's have unique identifiers on them as well, because how else would the companies keep track of their products? Why then does the City not work with those, essentially, Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN), to issue citations to then send to the companies? I know the business license states the companies are to require their users to photograph the scooter when done and parked. What is the point of that? Why is this photographic evidence not being used by the scooter companies to then pass down the enforcement to the user since they are supposed to have received proof of them parking correctly? Can someone please speak to this subject matter? I have been confused about the City's stance on why it is so difficult to enforce the rules around parking the scooters. Thank you for your time.

City Vehicle #689 has a headlight out. When will the city have its employees make sure their vehicles are in working order. This has been about the 5th time I’ve reported city owned vehicles not in working order.

Given that the City refuses to fine residents who blow leaves and grass into adjacent properties and/or onto sidewalks and streets (or even just acknowledge the validity of a complaint made about it), it seems like it will be perfectly fine in the future for everyone to just rake all their leaves and grass clippings into the streets and let the street-cleaners deal with the mess.

I have been smelling smoke in the evenings that I believe may be coming from homeless encampments along the Rail Trail, the gravel road parallel to the Rail Trail, and other City Property in the woods. The homeless were already removed from these city properties. The City needs to continue to monitor this area and enforce city ordinances and other rules and laws against camping there. Check the entire stretch of woods from Country Club Drive to Gordon Pike and kick everyone out immediately. Do not let this problem continue, as it was a major issue in 2024 with dangerous fires, numerous police searches for armed and wanted individuals living and hiding in the camps, fights between homeless, and a general threat to the health and safety of any citizen using the trail system. Please investigate and continue to monitor to make sure there are no homeless camps now or in the future in that area of the city. It is a horrible problem to allow it to get rooted in the woods there, so stop it as soon as possible.
