The Lower Cascades Playground - The Yellow wooden Floors in the Lower Playground are deteriorating pretty badly. They are probably okay for the season, but there are starting to be significant signs of needing repairs and replaced. The Upper Cascades Playground main slide is not structurally sound to carry the weight of a three year old. The sections are splitting from each other.
Walking through the park this afternoon and found a used syringe NEXT TO THE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT. I cleaned that and multiple empty/half full bottles of liquor and cans of beer up, as well as packs of cigarettes and other nicotine products, some of the boxes still had products in them. Oh and condoms. On the playground. We are spending a lot of money to upgrade this "park", it would be great if the city would do something about the junkies that have taken it over. Your "security patrol" came and timidly took some pictures with his phone to make it look like he did something, idk. We are begging the city to do something about the junkies, they are migrating in to the neighborhood and causing problems. Please spend some of that money actually cleaning this park up.
Guys doing drugs on picnic table area at Switchyard while families are there with children. Happens every time we are there and very discouraging the parks are not safe.
The footbridge right next to the Bryan Park restrooms has two or three damaged planks. This seems new, just noticed it today.
Enjoying the BSO concert at the switchyard pavilion tonight (8/24/25) and they closed the bathrooms at 8:00pm! I know the sign says closed at 8, but when an event is going on and there are 100’s of people here at the concert! Not good.
Moores Pike immediately west of St. James Woods Addition entrance. Between Moores Pike and Sidewalk. Large tree rotting at base, dead at top, with roots exposed on slope to road. If it falls, it will block Moores Pike.
At the Winslow Woods Nature Trail, up on the hill as you're heading to the streets behind the trail (E. Azelea Ln and S. Bent Tree Dr.), there is a yellow jacket nest buried to one side in a thicket. I have noticed them the past couple days I've been out there getting more aggressive and expanding their territory. I was also stung by one before I knew they were there. They seem to be increasing in number, so wanted to let you know to warn anyone who might be allergic, or if children/pets are out there. Thanks!
Had trouble registering for a class, Walking with Ease. The landing page gave me the option to filter, but nothing was returned (for any options). Finally tried typing the class name into the search bar, which brought up one hit, for the section of the class just ended. I tried Enroll now anyway, and this led to a different landing page. Finally, opening "Health and Wellness" revealed the class I want. Just thought you might like to know how hard it was to find this!
A lot of effort has been done to trim trees and remove invasive honeysuckle along this trail the last year. Unfortunately, the perhaps even more invasive tree of heaven has taken its place. I've noticed dozens of saplings that have grown already up to 10 feet tall this year.
