Followup to case# 181838 (I believe there is a problem with distracted driving in Bloomington despite there being a state law about hands-free driving for a few years now. Please inform me what BPD is doing to directly address this danger to the public safety of this city. Thank you. Marnina Patrick) I took Captain Pedigo up on the suggestion to contact the ISP and am now sharing the replies I go: "Thank you for taking the time to send us a note of concern for drivers utilizing celllular devices while driving. We have listed the statue below for your review and will forward you concern to the commander of the bloomington district. If you see a violation, please don’t hesitate to report the driver to your local police/sheriff's office or the closest ISP post." Police departments throughout the nation are experiencing staffing shortages however still continue to serve the public."

Biking & Walking

3209 E 10th St, Bloomington, IN 47408, USA

Case Date:
3/26/2023

The intersection of Pete Ellis Dr./Discovery Parkway and 10th Street is used by residents of numerous apartment complexes, bus riders, and community members accessing the post office and the greenway that goes along 10th St. The intersection is necessary for access to Indiana University from Woodbridge and Fountain Park Apartments, which hosts many graduate students. However, there is no crosswalk, pedestrian lights, or sidewalk platforms to allow for safe crossing along this very busy intersection. Additionally, the traffic lights are not able to be seen from the four corners of the intersection, forcing pedestrians to make an educated guess on when to cross. In short, the intersection is dangerous and near impossible to cross. Would it be at all possible in the future to include a) a crosswalk b) a pedestrian crosswalk light c) sidewalk cutout/curb ramps on the two corners in which there is not one currently? Thank you so much for your consideration. We really appreciate it.

Parking Permits

506 W 4th ST

Case Date:
3/31/2023

Hi! I am requesting parking lines be drawn in the parking area on 4th Street in front of 511 W 4th St. There is room for 5 cars to park comfortably and safely in this area. Frequently, people park incorrectly in this area, taking up multiple spots and limited the number of cars that can park in the area. I operate a business at 511 W 4th Street, Suite #2. We are a small PR firm that employs 20 people in Bloomington. We own the office space at 511 W 4th Suite 2. We would love to be able to maximize this convenient parking area for our employees by having parking lines drawn.

What does it mean when a HAND report says "Will monitor"? Specifically, how long does the office wait until an actual fine is assessed? For example, see case #183713. Parker will not keep the lawns cut unless someone pesters them about it.

Scooters, Bike-share and Related Issues

120 S Kingston DR

Case Date:
1/9/2019

To: Office of the Mayor These scooters (see image) are parked in spaces where my residents need to park for several days now. I already moved them closer to the street several times. This location does not have a walkway (307 19th Street), they should not be parked in private property. I called the police, but they have suggested to open a complaint in your office. Is there something that can be done about this? Thank you in advanced for your help. Almendra Minnaar Property Manager Distinct Management 812-339-0951
