The northwest corner of our yard has been inundated with water for the past several weeks. There is standing water as well as super-saturated ground. The water appears to originate from the utility strip between properties toward Clover. This does not appear to be related to rain or storm events. The water drains to the south, but the amount present doesn't lessen. This makes us think there is a leak in either a water main or a storm drain or another source. The saturation leads to worries about the mature trees along the property line coming over. The ground is boggy and one cannot walk or mow in this area. Your attention to this will be appreciated.

Hello, I reported water coming into our yard before.(uReport Case #177856) Your answer was that it was probably coming from neighbor's pool. That pool is to the southwest and they do indeed drain it into the yard, but it is not the source of water coming from uphill, close to properties on Clover on the northwest side of the yard. The water comes from somewhere close to 400 Clover Lane. As the property line and utility easement are wooded and covered with vegetation it is difficult to tell where the water originates, but it is clearly outside of our yard. There is a drain line that is broken that needs fixed. If you fill in the hole the pipe will get clogged if not repaired first.

I am requesting a ditch or pipe be installed in the wooded easement south of my property that will move the water out to the storm drain that was recently installed last year on Waldron Street in front my house. On April 13th of this year, we received a lot of rain in just a couple hours and I noticed most of the water was coming from the wooded easement South of my house and running down into my yard, pooling up and overflowing down near my basement (where i've had flooding from the street runoff in years past). I have a problem on my property with drainage. The drainage of my property runs off naturally into my neighbor's yard. His address is 3514 Morningside Drive. When a storm comes, his back yard pools and remains there for a few days until it is absorbed into the ground. I discussed with one of the neighbors how this might be resolved and volunteered to help pay for pipes that would carry the water that pools in their yard to the ditch along Morningside Drive. The neighbor didn't think that would work. Now they have dug out a deeper hole in their yard and are installing a "Sponge Garden." My understanding is that this will retain water and will not allow my yard to drain. This area has backed up into my basement in the past and flooded it. It seems to me that this will occur more easily with the installment of the "Sponge Garden." I appeal to the city of Bloomington to send engineers to come and see if there is some way that water can be drained into the ditch along Morningside Drive.

The ditch area, and currently un-mowed area on N Hancock Drive on the west edge of Crestmont Park, is CBU Street Department area. In an effort to reduce carbon footprint by mowing this strip seasonally, to decrease stormwater runoff into the overloaded culvert during rain events and to increase sustainability, native tree growth and pollinator habitat, this area could easily be a no-mow area. There are no overhead power lines at risk of native trees growing tall in this area. In addition, during an Adopt-a-Greenspace site survey it was noted invasive Tree of Heaven is growing in several spots along this strip. The Tree of Heaven MUST be chemically controlled and not mowed or more TOH trees will emerge. Crestmont Park and surrounding Crestmont landowners are engaged in supporting their woodland landscapes. Adding a no-mow strip along N Hancock is in keeping with the surrounding greenspace. I propose this strip be slated as a no-mow area for the above reasons. Thank you. There is water constantly flowing out of the ground on the alley east of 213 E. Cottage Grove about 40 feet north of the street. The water is bubbling up and flowing south to the street then flowing east to Lincoln. When it was cold recently a glacier formed there that was dangerous to walk or drive on. It i now getting swampy there - still dangerous but in a different way. Both City Utilities and property owner were notified, but it is not clear if anyone has determined where the water is coming from. Good to check the meters in the area, e.g., 701 N. Lincoln, 700 N. Washington, 706 N. Washington for any unexpectedly high usage.
