Parks & Playgrounds:

To whom it may concern, Over the past couple weeks I have been visiting the Miller-Showers Park located at 1500 N. College Ave. I like to pass the time listening to the waterfall or looking at the detailed sculptures. Unfortunately, it is hard to enjoy the view because the water is so slimy and murky. I am disappointed because it can look so much better if cleaned. Right now it just looks gross. To resolve the problem, I would appreciate if someone could please clean the water so there is no more green slime in the water. I look forward to your reply and a resolution to my problem. Please contact me at the above email address. Sincerely, Kristina Coonce

Dave Williams sent the following e-mail: Ms. Coonce, Thank you for sharing your comments re: Miller-Showers Park. In a non-draught year, periodic rainfall is enough to keep the algae growth in the park ponds under control, as stormwater coming into the park flushes it downstream. We have tested various chemical treatments and have not found any yet that are environmentally effective or friendly. Incoming stormwater to the park is nutrient rich and algae growth is part of the biological processes occuring at the park as stormwater is cleansed before discharging downstream to Cascades Park. We do agree the algae on the surface can at times be unsightly and we'll continue our efforts to keep it under control. Respectfully, Dave Williams Operations Director Bloomington Parks and Recreation
