Parks & Playgrounds:

I was not sure to whom I should send this e-mail; but this was the address listed on Bloomington's Parks and Recreation website. The local park in my neighborhood, Park Ridge Park, is in need of some new equipment. I know it is hard to get funding and that our park is small but it is right near the apartments and there are a great number of kids and young adults who frequent the park. Our neighborhood would be proud to call Park Ridge Park our "home" park but not in the state that it is in. The main problem is with the basketball goals. They are badly rusted (the poles as well as the backboards) and one goal has a net that is cut up and dangling halfway off. Basically, this section of the park is an eyesore. It has seen a lot of use over the years but if we could get funding to have these replaced that would be super! Thank you.

Emailed: Thank you for sharing your comments about your neighborhood park. You are correct, funding is not currently available for large scale improvements at Park Ridge Park, such as a frequently requested new playground. However, we are able to respond to your immediate concerns about the basketball goals and backboards and will schedule them for maintenance and repair, or replacement, by early to mid summer. Longer term, we agree the park needs some improvements. Gaining a consensus from neighborhood residents as to their priorities would be helpful for future planning and if the neighborhood would like to discuss the options, we stand ready to meet with you.
