Drainage or Runoff:

Other: We live at the bottom of a hill and there is no storm drain on our road at all. As a result, we get all the water runoff from Adams and connecting roads directly into our yard. We would like a drain put into our block. Additionally, we have had major flooding in our back yard from the open water ditch that runs next to our house (we have already reported this once). Something needs to be done to prevent our house being flooded out because of city drainage issues. Thank you. We live at 1315 W 6th St.

A Utilities inspection showed a wedged 2x4 in the storm pipe that had collected debris and was slowing the runoff in major storm events. T&D crews removed the blockage and the pipes will now operate at capacity. I called Stephanie Warner at 9:45am on September 25th and left a detailed message with a call back number for questions if she has any.

A Utilities TV inspection of the pipe found a lodged 2x4 within the pipe that was gathering debris and slowing the flow of water. This has been removed and the pipe should flow at capacity.

wyatt is working on this solution. However, Wyatt was filling in for an inspector that was on vacation this week so no progress was made.

This is a difficult situation, the home is built several feet below the road grade and is in the lowest point of a fairly large drainage basin. The home does not appear to have any protective features around it to protect it from high water. The home sits flat on the lot and could benefit from a swale around it, but this is difficult because its built so low. I believe that some of the problems with the water coming off 6th Street might be eliminated if we can capture the water in the storm sewer as comes down the swale from the north side of the road. We will complete an analysis of the drainage basin and verify the pipe has enough capacity to handle the flow for the 10 year rain event. We are also going to use this drainage analysis to verify the swale in the rear yard is the correct size or determine if it needs to be larger.

We have not completed the drainage ditch analysis yet, but should have it done early next week.

I followed up with the property owner. I explained to him that we would complete a drainage analysis of the area and determine what size the channel downstream of the 36" pipe needs to be. We will also check on the damaged asphalt curb in front of his place. I also explained that the previous owner had been warned about purchasing this home because of the drainage issues and lack of viable solutions. In case this wasn't disclosed to him before the purchase of his new home. I explained that we will followup with him near the end of March.
