Traffic Suggestions:

Other: To Whom it May Concern, I am an IU Student living in Jackson Heights. I choose to take the bus 2-3 times a day to get to my classes, in an effort to be environmentally conscious. The nearest bus stop is on 17th street past the gas station. There isn't any crosswalk/crosswalk lights on any side of the corner I have indicated. This puts myself, as well as any other pedestrian, at risk of being seriously injured. I've been in Bloomington since August and have, thankfully, avoided getting into any incident. However, I have just heard from my roommate, that she almost got hit by a car, as the driver wasn't paying attention and it's tricky for a pedestrian to decide when to cross when there aren't any indications to do so. I am really hoping a solution can be reached. I'd also appreciate any feedback on any way I can assist to help avoid a tragic situation. Thank you for your time, Yasmine El-Gohary

Thank you for your time, Yasmine El-Gohary" I apologize for the delay in responding, I was cleaning up some older emails and realized my oversight. The City is in the process of improving the 17th Street Corridor and the intersection of 17th and Kinser Pike is among one of the elements that we are examining. As funding comes available we will be installing a new traffic signal along with your requested pedestrian improvements. In a few months the City will have a new Transportation Engineer on staff and this project, among others, will be reviewed by him. Thank you for your comments regarding pedestrian improvements on 17th Street. The City has always placed a very high priority on improvements to pedestrian facilities. As soon as a feasible project can be developed we will start the process of upgrading the intersection. Roy, I know that there is the roundabout project just west of this intersection. Vince thought you might be the best contact for this.
