Traffic Suggestions:

Other: Hi. After witnessing my third or fourth car accident in the past six months at the exact same intersection (when walking on the sidewalk every time), I would like to request the installation of a traffic light at Longview and Pete Ellis. This intersection, only two minutes from my house, is undeniably dangerous and (I am 99% positive) fatal at least once. The faster traffic on Pete Ellis doesn't have a stop sign, so when cars on Longview turn, it is hard for them to detect those fast vehicles. I have almost been hit crossing the street it is that bad. Today, December 22nd, a friend of mine was seriously hurt in an accident at that intersection.Despite the costs of a traffic light and the work it will entail, I do not want to risk my life and my friends' lives and the lives of other citizens anymore. I might send an additional, more detailed letter to the mayor if this does not go through. I sincerely hope you consider this proposal. Thank you.

Sent the following email to Mr. Foley: "Thank you for taking the time to share your concern regarding the safety of the Pete Ellis/Longview intersection via the City's uReport system. I'm sorry to hear that a friend of yours was hurt in a crash at this intersection - I hope your friend is doing ok! The City will evaluate the safety of this intersection and consider possible changes such as installing a traffic signal per your request. Could you provide a bit more detail regarding your experience and observations of the intersection to assist in our evaluation? For example, what type of crashes have you observed (e.g., pedestrian crossing Pete Ellis, vehicle turning left onto Pete Ellis, etc.)? What movements are most challenging and what makes it hard for people on Longview to detect vehicles on Pete Ellis? As a part of our evaluation we will collect and review data such as traffic volumes, traffic speed, crash records, field conditions, etc. Given it is the holiday season, our staff's current workload, and the time it requires to collect and evaluate this data it will take several weeks to complete our evaluation. In the interim, I look forward to your response with additional information regarding your observations at the intersection and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any additional comments or questions. I or someone from our team will be in touch with you to share our findings and recommended course of action." Coordinating counts with Paul and background with Scott and Neil.
