closed: Can't Fix #155193

Line of Sight:

Other: Turns onto 3rd street from Overhill Drive are very, very dangerous! It is basically a turn into a 5 lane road. I was going southbound on Overhill Drive making a left turn onto 3rd, but I was unable to see incoming traffic from eastbound 3rd street which was being blocked by cars stopped at the stoplight on westbound 3rd st. They frequently have to slow down to let me in and sometimes I have to swerve my car into the center lane to avoid an accident. The problem with that though is that sometimes westbound people on 3rd street wanting to turn left on Woodcrest Drive speed through the middle lane and almost crash into me while I am turning left onto 3rd street. It seems like the connection between Overhill Drive and 3rd street should be blocked off because there is no traffic light onto the 5 lane road which has high traffic, and due to the stoplight at 3rd/Woodcrest, all the stopped vehicles are blocking the view of oncoming traffic.

This traffic concern was sent to Traffic Commission for consideration. The constituent was informed and attended the meeting. The consensus was to contact members of the Green Acres neighborhood Association for their input about the intersection. After that information is compiled there will be more discussion about any changes that may take place. Although we don't have an absolute solution for this issue at this point we are hoping near future improvements at 3rd and Woodscrest will help. The Planning Services Manager will be in touch with the Neighborhood Association to get their input about the possible solutions presented at traffic commission. This is an ongoing case. The intersection will be monitored in the future to see if the 3rd and Woodscrest improvements project provides adequate improvement to 3rd and overhill issues. Neil has been in contact with the constituent during the duration of this case being open.

I spoke with the engineers about this intersection today (9/23) in our traffic concerns meeting. The consensus is to move forward with the project at Woodscrest and 3rd intersection with the intention that it should somewhat improve the 3rd -Overhill situation. After the project is complete we can see if it improves the 3rd-Overhill intersection and see about solutions if it doesn't help. Will contact the constituent via e-mail.

Hi Adam, Thanks for sending this email regarding Overhill at 3rd (I also received the uReport you submitted). We will certainly do an evaluation of this based on the concerns you raise. Depending on what we find, this may need to be presented to the Traffic Commission (if that is the case then we would let you know and encourage you to attend). It's unlikely that the current project at 3rd and Woodscrest will be able to incorporate work at Overhill. None of the improvements included in the 3rd and Woodscrest project would preclude the ideas you mention for Overhill, but expanding that project would be beyond the scope and available funding (funding and scope are fairly specific because this project is programmed through the Metropolitan Planning Organization to use federal funds through the Highway Safety Improvement Program). I'm sorry to hear that you were previously unaware of the 3rd and Woodscrest project, but glad you found it online. We previously reached out to the Green Acres neighborhood association, but did not contact individual residents. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention and we'll follow up to let you know what we find and options moving forward. - Neil
