Trails:

Other: The east-west trail running through the middle of Bryan Park needs to be significantly wider. This is a critical connection in the signed Allen-Covenanter bike route, but very awkward to ride on. Passing even a single person walking (not to mention groups, dog-walkers, kids, etc) is uncomfortable for all parties. When I come up behind someone am I supposed to ask them to walk in the grass or do I make them feel like they're in the way by trying to bounce around them in the grass? I'd avoid it, but the alternatives of either Grimes or Maxwell are scary. Please widen this connection to make it functional and comfortable for both transportation and recreation purposes. Thank you!

The average width of the trail is 6 feet. Current design standards call for at least an 8 foot width for multi use trails. Multi use trails are designed for a mixture of pedestrians and bicycles. The bike route designated for crossing the park east/west is the trail on the south side of the creek. There is a plan in place to widen that section to link the Allen St. bike corridor on the west with the Southdowns and Sheridan route on the east side. This would be a multi use trail that is compliant with ASHTO standards of 8 to 12 feet. There are several capital improvement projects in the parks bond for Bryan Park and we work to include this as well.
