uReport

City of Bloomington, Indiana

closed: Resolved #158300

Street Lights:

Other: At the intersection of Henderson and Winslow, the walk signals to cross Henderson are activating every time. Until a few months ago they only activated if the button was pushed to cross. Henderson already had a very short green cycle. With the length of the green cycle for Winslow to accommodate the walk signal this guarantees a long wait for traffic traveling north/south on Henderson. Hopefully this is not intentional and things can return to the walk signal activating on the button push. If the change was intentional, please lengthen the time Henderson has the green light.

Hi Bill, sorry for the delay in responding to this uReport you submitted regarding the signal timing at the intersection of Henderson and Winslow. We had our signal timing consultant take another look at this signal based on your comments. I'll try to give you a brief version of his response below, but please feel free to follow up with additional questions/comments. The walk signals aren't actually causing changes to the green intervals at this signal, but the timings had been changed. This signal was coordinated with the signal at Winslow-Walnut to improve progression for the east-west traffic on Winslow. The green interval for Winslow is long enough that the walk signals can also come up without affecting green time. After further evaluation, we decided to remove this coordination during the morning and midday hours (this update was implemented on March 21st, hopefully you will notice decreased delays on Henderson during those time periods). The afternoon peak hours were left in coordination in order to accommodate the higher volumes of traffic. Thanks and please feel free to follow up with any additional questions or comments,
