Dear Ms. Wilbur,
Thank you for your comments regarding the recent communications by Kilroy's and Recess bars. Mayor Hamilton is in full agreement with you on this topic. Here is a statement he released yesterday:
Mayor John Hamilton commented on recent sandwich board and social media communications from Kilroy’s on Kirkwood and Recess bars located on Kirkwood Avenue near the IU campus: “The glorification of misogyny and binge drinking has no place here, period. It’s not funny, it’s not cute, it’s not clever. Encouraging reprehensible and dangerous behaviors in college-age residents, or any residents, is against everything for which this community stands. We will be engaging with the creators of these messages to encourage more responsible behavior in the future and I suspect the community is already giving the Kilroy’s communicators very clear feedback on their messaging tactics.”
In addition, Mayor Hamilton will be meeting with the owner of Kilroys and IU officials tomorrow to discuss the problem. There will be more to announce on this topic in the near future, I'm sure.
Thank you again for reaching out.
Best,
Mary Catherine Carmichael,
Communications Director, City of Bloomington
