email to constituent who contacted Mayor's office: Thanks for contacting us regarding the signal timing at 17th and Fee. Roughly a year ago the protected left turn phases turning from Fee onto 17th were removed as part of a citywide signal retiming project. Our consultant determined that due to relatively low left turn volumes the signal would operate more efficiently without a protected phase. Left turns should be proceeding with the green light (permitted phase) after yielding to all oncoming traffic. I've discussed this change with a number of people who noticed that the left turn arrows don't come up, but you are the first person to indicate experiencing long delays because of it. Is there a particular time of day when you experience these delays? Does it happen regularly? What direction are you traveling when it happens?
