I have changed the message on the speed board. The sign now says reduced speed ahead and then shows the vehicle's speed.
Other: On Vernal Pike heading east in to the City, there is a significant speed limit change once you reach Cresent Road. There is a reader board that alerts you to the speed limit change, but it is located essentially right at the zone change itself. This is setting up a dangerous situation, especially in regards to school bus traffic and children entering/exiting buses. Vehicles are going very fast and suddenly the speed limit changes very fast (from 40 mph to 20 mph). Can the reader board sign please be moved about 500' west (prior to entering bridge)? If not, can another warning sign or signal of some type be installed to give drivers an advanced warning of the speed limit change? This will really help with the safety of this situation. Thank you very much.

The speed board is set up in the best/safest location in that area. It doesn't block the sidewalk and is in a driveway cut. The way I positioned the board it is picking up vehicles as they crest the hill across the bridge. While I was out I checked the posted speed limit signs. Heading eastbound on W. Vernal Pike the speed limit is 40 mph until W. Woodyard Rd. It then drops to 35 mph. The posted speed drops again to 30 mph before crossing the overpass at the city boundary. If the posted speeds are followed there shouldn't be an issue. The speed board is drawing attention and getting drivers to realize they are going too fast. The speed does drop to 20 mph after the speed board since N. Lindbergh Dr. is just over the crest of the hill. Passed that, the speed limit is 25 mph.
Neil, is the City involved with this placement?
