City of Bloomington, Indiana

closed: Resolved #165833

Biking & Walking:

Other: Is there a reason there is NO sidewalk on Indiana Avenue on either side of the street from 15th St. going north to the IU Credit Union property? It is dangerous to walk that stretch of street without a sidewalk available.

Hello Ms. Behrman, My apologies for the delay in responding. Likely there is no sidewalk currently because the properties adjacent to that stretch of street have not developed. Many sidewalks in the City are built as new developments happen. That is why the Credit Union has a sidewalk along its property. Indiana University is the surround property owner for the rest o the stretch you mentioned. Unfortunately, the City has very limited funding for constructing new sidewalks, approximately $325,000 per year. This amount of money funds approximately 1/4 to 1/3 mile of new sidewalk depending on the needs of the space. There are several sidewalks available nearby on adjacent streets, although I understand that is not always desirable as a pedestrian. At this time, I will add your request to a list of requested projects. Thank you for your comment.
