Parks & Playgrounds:

Other: I'd like to address that there is severe mold issues on the pickleball and tennis courts at RCA park. The black mildew/mold issue has caused numerous instances with pickleball play and tennis play becoming a safety issue due to how slippery the surface get's. Many people have been slipping lately because the mold creates a very slippery surface. I'd like to suggest and request that someone comes to take a look at the issues near the back of the courts towards the woods. It would be greatly appreciated if the courts could be pressure washed off and the mold removed. Please feel free to contact me via my email provided for any further questions or dispositions. Thank you!

Sent an e-mail to respondent. Explained that we will study an option to softly power wash to try to eliminate stains on the tennis courts....but did qualify that it may not be a complete resolution.

Brandon: We have been keeping an eye on this situation for some time. The major culprit is walnut trees. The leaves and nuts from these trees are particularly staining to tennis courts. Some other trees are a problem too, but these are the worst type of trees for tennis surfaces. Power washing tennis courts is not recommended by anyone in the industry that builds, maintains, or resurfaces courts. It is highly likely to take the actual paint, color, and lines off. We have tried the method of cleaning with a recommended bleach and water solution but we didn't have success. We did this at Winslow and Bryan Park. However, I am considering a test run of a very soft spray of a power sprayer to see what would happen. The long term solution is to cut back walnut trees in particular, and any trees near tennis courts. Bryan Park has 3 trees that are very problematic for the courts. Thanks for playing...we will do a test when time permits and see what happens on a softer setting. The bleach solution and all did not work at the other locations.
