Web Form: This, undoubtedly, may be the weirdest email you will probably read. Or one of the weirdest. I am a guy who is a collector of patches, and wherever I go, I collect a patch as a souvenir and reminder of a place that I have been. I have been to Bloomington, IN, on a handful of occasions, however I have neither seen or found a City of Bloomington Patch or an IU patch, for that matter, to add to my collection. In such cases, I can have a custom embroidery company make a patch, based on a design that I give them. Now logos, like the logo for the City of Bloomington, are often copyrighted, understandably, to avoid replication without the approval of the given source. Considering this, I wanted to check with you guys, and see if it was permissible and acceptable by you to use your city logo to make a custom patch with. This would be for my personal collection, and not profiteering off your city's logo, but merely as a memento. It is out of respect that I make this request. If it not acceptable, I understand, and I will respect that decision. Legal responded by email that we didn't have patches with our logo on it and we could not authorize him to make his own patch using our logo. But we offered either a police or fire patch. The requestor did not respond.

Hi, again, Matt. The Fire Department has a patch and they would be happy to provide you with one if you'd like. I am unable to put an image here in UReport, but if you Google images for "Bloomington, IN Fire Department patch", it shows up. It is the one with the blue background with an eagle atop a Bloomington banner, a circle below that which says Fire Dept. and then "Ind" at the very bottom. Let me know if you are interested. Unfortunately, we do not allow use of our trademarked logo for any but official City or City-sanctioned purposes. However, I am checking with our various departments to see if any of them use patches on their uniforms or other clothing. If I can find a patch, I will contact you again and send you one.
