Web Form: Hello. I am a resident near Olcott Park and have noticed what look like lighting fixtures being installed along the trail from Sherwood Oaks Park to Olcott Park. I'd like to make a case against this, as it is extremely damaging to the small ecosystem the forest has. These lights will cause light pollution in an otherwise rather remote area considering its proximity to the city and will disturb bat populations as well as many other night-active animals that require a dark environment to thrive. The trail and woods are a wonderful place to look at the stars at night and go birdwatching, but these lights will disturb these activities. Many ecological programs/studies that take place will also be impacted: there is an event for owl watching that happens in the summer, and the presence of lights in the otherwise dark forest will disrupt this. People tend to sleep and stay in when it is dark in the first place, the lights are not worth the effort to put them in and the damage they will cause. I personally enjoy going for walks in the dark on summer evenings and watching the lightning bugs, an activity I and many other children enjoyed growing up near the park. Please consider this appeal; I am willing to speak in person if needed. Thank you.
