Paula...here is the e-mail I sent. I couldn't figure out how to include you on the e-mail so I cut and pasted.
Anita:
Here is the historical events on the batting cage and hopeful progress.
The batting cages were owned by the Bloomington Junior League Baseball Association and vacated due to lack of business after the 2018 season. Originally, our department had agreed to demolish during the off peak and off season winter/spring. It proved to be too much work for our crews without the right equipment to demolish.
Thus we had to seek funding to contract the job. That funding was approved in May 2019. We then have a legal process to get bids on the work and that proved to be difficult and a longer timeline than we hoped. Several contractors said they were too busy, would give us a too high bid because they are in such high demand, etc.
We finally got 3 bids and selected a firm and just completed the board approval and contract.
Part of the winning bidders contract, and part of the reasonable price...was the contractor can do the work during their off peak time. That basically means in between jobs or intermittently. They are on-site in July to construct tennis court work and I have requested they complete this job by mid-August. I am pretty confident we can get them to complete this by September 1 but they legally have until November. We have wanted them down for years, honestly. Therefore, we are going to do what we can to have them complete this work as soon as possible. I think everyone agrees....they need to go. Hope that information helps.
