Hi Kelly,Thanks for taking the time to submit this uReport requesting a traffic signal and crosswalk on LIberty Drive near your school. I'm sorry to hear that you've been observing high speeds and having trouble turning out of this driveway, but I do not think that installing a traffic signal is feasible at this time. Traffic signal installations are required to meet certain warrants with strict criteria. We recently had an engineer visit the site to assess conditions. Because this is a private driveway, the City does not track traffic volumes or delay, but at this time there is no evidence that a traffic signal is warranted. Also, if the driveway did meet traffic signal warrants, it is unlikely that the City could prioritize funding for this driveway above other locations. If a traffic signal was installed at this location, then we would also include crosswalks. However, research has shown that installing a midblock crosswalk without other improvements has no positive effect on safety.
I expect Liberty Drive gets pretty busy at certain times of the day, but it sounds like illegal speeding might be the primary concern. If that is the case, then I can forward this information to the police department and they may be able to do targeted enforcement to discourage speeding.
Thanks again for your time and please feel free to follow up with questions or comments.
