Please let me know if you would like to discuss more. Thank you.
Other: A pedestrian just died from a vehicle strike at Park Ridge and 3rd. Please don't let the residential street of Morningside be next, treated by many cars similarly to 3rd. Writing to remind that though there may be less walking and biking in the winter months that it still happens and is more dangerous as often darker and with cars less vigilant. Please move forward with traffic calming as soon as possible for Park Ridge East. Thank you for your attention. I look forward to the day when our kids can bike and play as we could when we were younger. We may not be able to play street hockey like we used to in the street but hoping we can at least learn to ride our bikes on it.
Please let me know if you would like to discuss more. Thank you.
Thank you for reaching out, and your comment. I too am looking forward to the day when cyclist or pedestrian fatalities are no longer seen as one of the pitfalls of an inhumane system that is incapable of change. Please know that our department takes instances like the one which occurred last Monday very seriously and are doing the most we can with the resources we have to make changes and reduce the incidence of harm. I don’t expect you to take my word for it- but just know that continuing to speak about your concerns, and instances that effect your sense of safety in this community are so important to holding our our department and elected officials accountable. Insofar as Traffic Calming is concerned- we will be releasing a call for projects in the next week. Please let me know if you would like to be added to the list of people who I notify when the RFP goes live. I will be notifying the Neighborhood Associations including Park Ridge, and Park Ridge East and I believe several neighbors who have notified me of issues on Morningside. There are no guarantees that we will be able to fund a project on Morningside this year- but my hope is that with a consistent and data driven process we can begin to advocate for more funding for such things. Please feel free to reach out to me via email (I mostly work remotely) at rickbeilm@bloomington.in.gov if you would like to discuss. We can also set up a time to talk if you would like to learn more about the Traffic Calming program. I’d be happy to follow up with you. Be Well, Mallory
