Other: I recently noticed a sign up on the fence of the tennis courts at Sherwood Oaks park, stating they are to be used for tennis only. No exceptions. No soccer, no dogs, no skateboards. Dogs, I understand. If they eliminate on the court- what a mess. Skateboards I understand- they could damage the court surface. But I do not think there is any justification telling my sons they can’t play soccer *tennis* at those courts. My 18 year old has loved playing soccer tennis with his brother or a friend, a couple times a year, since he was about 10 years old. The soccer ball won’t damage the court surface. They are taught by their travel coaches to play soccer tennis as a fun way to improve their ball skills. There is no reason why my family does not have the right to use that court for tennis, just as much a anyone else, provided we are respectful and do not take up too much time (using it for an hour a few times a year I think is very reasonable.). We just happen to use a soccer ball instead of a tennis ball. People with dogs can go to one of the city’s dog parks. People with skateboards can go to one of the city’s skate parks. Where exactly are my son supposed to go to play soccer tennis now? This is a ridiculous exclusion, and can’t be justified.

Patricia - John retired and I am following up on this outstanding report. You'll find that the sign in question has been removed at the tennis courts since the fence was recently replaced. The use you describe should be acceptable, but tennis courts are prioritized for tennis play above other uses. Thank you.
