City of Bloomington, Indiana

closed: Resolved #175034

Other:

Other: Increasing numbers of homeless individuals are sleeping in their cars at the empty Kmart at night. People are now advertising it as a location online. That site needs City attention for redevelopment and monitoring. Eliminate the big box and know it is a great location for smart development close to the new hospital site for lodging, retail, restaurants, green space, and mixed-income housing. By the City not owning up to a solution for the unhoused it apparently is encouraging such individuals to encroach on private lands now. Find a designated park such as Switchyard with parking lots, green space, lights, and security to decriminalize sleeping. And even if not, put some effort into getting a large already commercially designated site back into active use in town. Thank you.
