Biking & Walking:

Other: This issue concerns the new double bike lane on 7th Street (especially near the 2-way intersection of Kirkwood Avenue and Dunn Meadow). Since this bike lane is so new and it is big enough for two lanes of bike traffic, I have repeatedly seen cars mistakenly turning down the bike lane. As you can imagine, this is extremely dangerous to both drivers and cyclists. Last week there was a bike sign at the intersection which cut down on driver confusion. However, as of this morning, the sign is not there and I saw yet another driver make this mistake and turn down the bike lanes. I would suggest that the bike sign be permanently installed to help prevent this problem in the future. I greatly appreciate your help! I've seen this mistake happen at least half a dozen time since IU classes started.

constituent emailed. We are aware that this has been happening and are pursuing geometric updates at the 7th-Indiana intersection which we think will reduce potential confusion. Additionally, because the project is not complete yet, there are additional pavement markings that have not been installed yet. Upon completion we will continue to monitor the entire length of the protected bike lane and make adjustments as necessary.
