Sidewalk & Curb Complaints:

Other: There are "bump-outs" with pipes extending up from the ground surrounding them. I imagine the purpose for these is to protect pedestrians. The only problem is that they extend into the street, causing pedestrians who would not normally be out into the street this far to be there, and also they make it dangerous for cars turning left on each of these (Walnut onto 14th, 14th onto College)because it narrows the turn access, and it also blocks the site of the driver. Why are we putting pedestrians out into the street? Seems like a dangerous situation to me. Thank you.

constituent emailed the following response: Thank you for taking the time to submit this uReport, and I apologize for sending such a delayed response. The locations you mention are intended to be a temporary installation to improve pedestrian safety. People crossing the street don't have to wait in those areas, but they do provide an area to stand with improved visibility and a shorter crossing distance. These locations were evaluated to ensure that vehicles are still able to complete turns and that sight distance is not restricted by the temporary posts. The posts at 14th-Walnut will be removed this year when a traffic signal is installed. The posts at 14th-College will likely be removed as part of a future infrastructure project, but there is nothing scheduled at this time. Thanks and I hope that provides some helpful information,
