Street & Traffic Signs:

Other: On behalf of myself and concerned neighbors, we request the inclusion of a stop sign at High St. and Greenbriar Lane. This is an area of fast moving traffic despite the fact that it is also a crosswalk for school children and there are numerous children walking in the area. There are numerous stop signs along High St. up until this point so the lack of a stop sign at this particular intersection is a dangerous anomaly. If you could please implement one here, it would be much appreciated by the various surrounding neighborhoods. Thank you.

Closing ureport. constituent emailed with the following information: Unfortunately, reports of people illegally speeding are common throughout the City. There are a number of reasons why all-way stop control is not recommended as a tool to reduce speeding, especially when one street has significantly higher traffic volumes than the other. In fact, the existing all-way stop at the intersection of High and Arden is a location for which we regularly receive concerns about safety due to reports of traffic on High not stopping or yielding for vehicles and pedestrians on Arden. The City does have a traffic calming program which you can learn more about on the website https://bloomington.in.gov/tcgp, but that program focuses on residential streets and I don't know if a street like High would be eligible. Another tool that we frequently use is a portable radar and speed display. It does not achieve long term change, but it does have benefits and helps raise awareness of actual speeds on the street. I will add this as a desired location for deployment, but unfortunately that equipment is currently not functional and we expect a replacement will likely not be available until the spring.

They would like a stop sign installed on High Street.
