City of Bloomington, Indiana

closed: Can't Fix #183154

Traffic Signals:

Other: I sent this message on March 14. I did not include my email or other contact information. Can you tell me if this will be changed? I noticed it was closed and again we are all waiting for the light to change with no traffic coming and only 2-3 of us can get through before it turns yellow. Traffic light on Atwater and Indiana very long on the Indiana side almost two minutes. On Atwater going towards the east side the light stays green for a long time. Once the light on Indiana changes only about 3 cars can go before it turns red again.

This intersection was observed and evaluated recently. No changes to the signal operations are planned at this time. Traffic volumes on Atwater Ave are much higher than on Henderson St/Indiana Ave, particularly in the afternoon peak hour with an approximately 80/20 split. The signal timings are currently configured to prioritize the flow of traffic on Atwater Ave in order to avoid potential spillback queuing into 3rd St/Dunn St intersection. The northbound Henderson St approach does have vehicular detection, so you may see particularly short cycles when few vehicles are present and longer cycles (to a limit) when traffic is heavier on Henderson St. The detection was recently confirmed to be operating properly.
