Street & Traffic Signs:

Other: As one drives southward on N Dunn, coming up the hill at the dam, there should be a sign indicating that there is an intersection with Lakewood Dr. immediately at the top of the hill. People speed up the hill and because of the blind curve, those wishing to exit Lakewood Dr. onto Dunn are in danger of being hit. I've encountered this situation more times than I can count. I think people are truly unaware of that intersection until they are upon it (unless locals to the neighborhood). Any signage would be helpful. Thank you.

Hello Carole, thank you for submitting this report. Staff investigated the line of sight at the intersection, discussed the report in our traffic considerations meetings, and pulled recent crash data for the intersection. The line of sight looking south on Dunn from Lakewood (and from Dunn looking north to Lakewood) was determined to be adequate but was limited by low hanging branches and tree trunks. Because of this, staff trimmed the low hanging branches to improve the line of sight as much as possible. At this time staff does not support adding an intersection warning sign. This conclusion was based on a few different factors: No crash data that demonstrates intersection line of sight as a root cause. The IMUTCD (Indiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) guidance recommends keeping warning at a minimum as the unnecessary use of warning signs tends to breed disrespect for all signs. Evidence also suggests that traffic warning signs have a minimal or negligible impact on crash reduction. There aren’t currently any planned improvements in the area that would affect this intersection but staff has noted this request to be considered during future projects as well.
