Parks & Playgrounds:

Other: We were at the park Tuesday morning July 4th for a morning walk. We entered by the community garden and walked down the paved path to the BLine trail. We observed 4 transients in the area and camping out in both pavilions. It was fairly early and it appeared they had slept in the park. Is this a common problem?? We are seniors and visit a lot of city parks regularly but are having concerns with safety. So much brushy areas also around paths. The men didn’t approach us and did keep to themselves.

As you know, Bloomington does have a fair number of folks leading transient lifestyles. Parks are open to the public from 5am to 11pm. We have contracted security that moves through our core downtown parks, including Butler Park, throughout the day and evening. In particular, two officers work in the evenings to visit parks after 11pm and ensure folks have vacated. This generally works well but of course sometimes folks return to the park in the early morning hours. If you have specific safety concerns about an area of overgrowth, etc. please let us know.
