I placed the resident's additional lighting request location on DPW's residential lighting request worksheet for future consideration.
Other: I was driving in my car last night after dark and was headed south on Walnut Street when the red flashing lights for the trail crossing by the Switchyard Park entrance were activated. I stopped. I could not see any person right away. Then, a guy came out from behind the pole for the crossing button and walked across the street. What I noticed is that the area is very dark. There are no street lights or other illuminating features that make it so a motorist can see someone on the sidewalk and entering the crosswalk. It seems like it would be a bonus feature to light up the crosswalk with street lights overhead so a person becomes visible in the road to make it safer.
I placed the resident's additional lighting request location on DPW's residential lighting request worksheet for future consideration.
Thank you for taking the time to communication with the City of Bloomington Department of Public Works. The City leases the majority of the street lights from Duke Energy. Each year additional lighting is installed at locations requested by residents. The number of lights installed are based upon available funding. I have placed your request location on my Lighting Request Worksheet for future consideration. At this time, I cannot promise that I can get a light installed this year as I have several areas already in the queue for additional lighting. However; I will take a look at this area and adjust the placement on the list accordingly.
