uReport

City of Bloomington, Indiana

closed: Resolved #185525

Fire Hazards:

Other: I have detected ground fault issues in 7 of my 14 outlets in the residence, apartment 25. And I detected numerous ground fault issues in apartment 29 as well. My cat found this issue on the night of September 6 after scent spraying a power outlet. The breaker failed to prevent an overload, a fire started, and I had to manually throw the breaker myself to kill power to the malfunctioning outlet. I believe the landlord is cognizant of the issue as one of the 3 replaced outlets was never discussed as damaged or of issue.

While this may be considered a fire hazard, I am forwarding this to the HAND department. They have jurisdiction over rental properties in Bloomington and can follow up with this issue. JM
