Parking Meters and Citations:

Other: I have spoken to three different people this morning working for the parking department, all of whom have been unhelpful and rude. Each time I have an interaction with anyone from the parking department, it is unpleasant and unprofessional. This behavior is unacceptable for any person to behave in this way, especially someone who is employed by my government. In the first incident, I politely asked the woman why I was recieving a ticket and that I did not understand. She was rude and unhelpful. After this, I called the number printed on my ticket and spoke to the parking manager, also asking her why I had received my ticket; as well as voicing my concern about the way that I was previously treated. Instead of offering to make the situation right, she lectured me on how "more people should care about accessibility issues" and that since I was blocking the sidewalk entrance, she "hopes I never end up in a wheelchair and need to access the sidewalk". After politely bringing the first woman to her attention, I was immediately met with MORE uncalled for disrespect. I then followed up and called the second woman's boss. Thankfully, I understand now why I got the ticket, but I do not trust that the situation has been handled. However, each person in this department clearly needs to take a course in customer service.

I spoke with all parking staff members that were involved with this interaction with the driver. After reviewing the citation, this violation was valid and as seen in the picture attached. The vehicle was completely blocking ADA accessibility and the sidewalk. The driver did not understand why she received the citation and requested the area to be signed and painted. Prior to calling our office she had interacted with the parking enforcement officer who explained why she was receiving the citation and then appealed the citation with the clerks office. There were questions by driver but no disagreement in the field. The individual spoke with enforcement officer, customer service relations representative and Parking Manager and myself. She wanted the situation to be made right due to the officer being rude in the field. I apologized about her prior interactions with any of the parking staff if she was offended as that was never our intent. I explained we just try to educate all violators when they don't understand why they are parking incorrectly and receive a citation. She asked the manager several times why she received the citation and requested the situation to be made right. I explained once the citation is appealed the clerks office will review and let her know their decision. Since the citation was already appealed they have the final decision to make but I would be glad look into her customer service interactions and speak with my staff about customer service.
