Parking on Unimproved Surface:

Other: My only parking place is deteriorating and the steps to my walkway are a hazard. The last couple rains we have had have washed a lot of dirt and gravel onto my grass. Can you add some railroad ties to reinforce this parking space or move my parking so that is goes to my side yard instead? I can add gravel but at this point it will just wash onto my lawn? I have fallen so many times the way this is currently setup. if the parking strip was more of a gravel drive way I could more easily get my garbage cans up to the street with out falling.

Please reach out to planning@bloomington.in.gov and engineering@bloomington.in.gov to discuss further. Staff are not aware of a situation in which the City would provide and place additional gravel or railroad ties in an area for additional parking that may possibly be non-compliant.

Based on satellite/aerial imagery, this appears to be possibly lawful non-conforming gravel placed in this right-of-way location that has been deteriorating and being utilized for on-street parking. This would require coordination from the Engineering Department regarding any work occurring in the right-of-way (which requires a permit), possibly the Parking Services or Street Department to verify that this area allows on-street parking, and further coordination with us (Planning & Transportation Department) to verify if this use can continue or if the gravel is even compliant with driveway standards based on the widths and impervious surface coverage on the lot.
