City of Bloomington, Indiana

closed: Can't Fix #188261

Inaccessible Parking:

Other: There is absolutely no parking available for residents who live at 1200 W Kirkwood Ave apartments. The resident who lives in 1208 1/2 has 6 different vehicles parked on N Pine Street and has made parking impossible for anyone else who lives here. I’m reporting this here as I’m not sure of anywhere else to report this? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Numerous attempts to speak with the tenant have failed.

Public parking on Pine Street is public and open to any vehicle (subject to vehicle size restrictions and prohibitions on inoperable or abandoned vehicles). We cannot limit who parks on Pine Street or how many vehicles are parked by one vehicle-owner. Although the City of Bloomington Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), which is Title 20 of Bloomington Municipal Code, has on-site minimum vehicle parking requirements for multifamily dwelling properties including the apartments at 1200 West Kirkwood Avenue, these apartments are older than this provision of the code. As a result, the on-site parking situation at 1200 West Kirkwood Avenue is a lawful nonconforming feature of the property. Unless the property redevelops, there is no obligation for the property owner to bring the on-site parking into compliance with the current UDO. If you feel that there is not adequate parking for your apartment, that would be a matter to take up with your landlord.
