Graffiti:

Other: “Free Speech Bridge” on Eagleson Avenue has hateful, disturbing grafitti. The red hands, red triangles and “Zionism Will Fall” messaging are paticulalry heinous and disturbing as they are often viewed as a call to violence, a call for the murder of all Jewish people. Are you a property owner/manager
no
Is this area constantly plagued by graffiti?
yes
If so, is it always the same kind of graffiti (political, idealogical, offensive, tags, etc?)
I was at IU Bloomington campus July 1-2 for new student orientatino with my child. I have emailed and called several people at IU in the last two weeks. I also called the Bloomington Street Department who transfered my call to the Public Works Departmenr and brought this to their attention. I am planning to come to Blooimington 7-16 24 with some colunteers to paint the bridge. It is preditced that the hateful messages calling for violence will be repainted on this bridge again within 48 hours.
Would you like to be contacted
yes

Sharie, I believe we spoke on the phone previously. The original response to this Ureport was not fully accurate and we apologize for that. The roadway and ROW are owned by the City of Bloomington. The University has provided the following information regarding the painted walls adjacent to the sidewalks based on policies that have been in place for some time. Bridge painting guidelines -The bridges on Eagleson Avenue between Tenth Street and Law Lane have been designated for painting. -Painting the bridges is on a first-come, first-use basis. Painting on sidewalks adjacent to the bridges is not allowed. (Chalking is allowed on the sidewalks.) -Individuals and organizations are not expected to cover or “guard” the bridges after painting them in order to prevent other individuals or groups from painting over their work. -Spilled paint on sidewalks must immediately be removed, as it presents a serious slipping hazard to pedestrians, especially in cold weather. -No other painting of any sort is permitted on any university property. -Additional information can be found at: https://studentlife.indiana.edu/involvement-belonging/student-involvement-leadership/student-organizations/manage-organization/promote-organization.html#:~:text=Bridge%20painting%20guidelines&text=Painting%20on%20sidewalks%20adjacent%20to,from%20painting%20over%20their%20work Adam Wason

This Right of Way, including the bridge, belongs to Indiana University. Indiana University will have to be the agency to deal with this issue.
