We are moving the sign 8/8/24 by 1800. I will speak to my folks about sign placement. I apologize for this.
Other: Submitted on behalf of Casey Guarino. On August 8, 2024, around 12:30 PM, both sides of S. Rogers St. were obstructed and impassible for wheelchair users around 714 S. Rogers. One sidewalk had no curb cut access due to construction. The other sidewalk, at 715 S. Rogers, was blocked by a temporary sign. Casey requested that a construction worker in the area move the temporary sign so that she could pass. The worker refused, saying "People who can walk can get around." When a passerby picked up the sign, the worker said "You can't do that." The passerby briefly moved the sign regardless, and Casey was able to reach her destination. However, both sidewalks remain obstructed, which is a major accessibility problem.

Michael - I'm very sorry to hear this happened. My understanding is that the sign in the photo is actually a CBU sign (which should not be blocking the sidewalk). I am reassigning this uReport to CBU. Engineering will follow up with construction crews onsite. I do not think CBU is onsite, so the rude comments would not be from one of their staff and may have come from workers on the 1st Street project. James - my info here is 3rd-hand so correct me if necessary, but we would hope that this gets remedied asap. Please coordinate with Zac Rogers in Engineering if there are questions.
We're hoping you get can get over there in the next day or so and let them know they cannot block both sidewalks at the same time. But more importantly for them to train their folks that they cannot say those kind of things to people with disabilities. Thanks!
