Animal Control & Neglected Pets:

Other: We appear to have some bats roosting in the street tree just north of our condo. Judging by the amount of droppings on the sidewalk, there are several, and they occasionally sit in the wreath on our front door again, evidenced by droppings. We've tried various repellents, with no success. We have a number of kids who use the sidewalk on their way to school and I'm concerned about their possible exposure to the droppings. Thank you.

Thank you for messaging us about the bats. Bats are an important part of our ecosystem and natural pest control. As such we normally do not intervene when they are outside of a home. I can understand your concern about the location. As long as no one is handling the bats or ingesting the guano there is no risk for disease transmission. I will have an Animal Control Officer check out the situation to make sure that there are no other issues. At this time of year, bats are beginning to migrating to their winter roosts, so will soon be vacating the tree. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
