Street & Traffic Signs:

Other: Everyday there are dozens of deer that run across this area. Recently some deer have been hit trying to cross 2nd street, around 2nd and Rose. Cars move too quickly down 2nd without paying attention, I believe this area would benefit greatly from a deer crossing sign, speed bump, or stop sign.

Thanks for flagging the deer activity near 2nd St & Rose Ave. We reviewed recent crashes and didn’t find a pattern that would warrant an all way stop under the MUTCD. At this time we’re also not recommending a Deer Crossing sign without a documented pattern of deer related crashes or animal removals at this location, these signs have limited effectiveness when used broadly. If speeding is a concern, we encourage you to consider the City’s Resident Led Traffic Calming Program, which offers longer-term tools such as speed humps where appropriate. The program runs on an annual grant cycle with applications opening each January. For details on how it works and what to expect, please contact the program manager, Hank Duncan, at hank.duncan@bloomington.in.gov . We will continue to monitor the area and make adjustments if conditions change. Thanks again!
