Sidewalk & Curb Complaints:

Other: The attached photo really does not do the issue justice - the road on the west side of my house (spring st) has large chunks fallen off, eroding. It needs repaired and a curb needs added, I live at the bottom of a hill and all of the water for blocks up comes rushing into my yard and into my house, vs the culvert just further back in my yard. I talked with someone in sidewalks about this almost two years ago - with the dramatic rain we get now, this issue cannot really be ignored any longer. I would so appreciate a curb put in, road repair, and the curb on the corner of the street raised as well to direct the rain into the drain on the street in front of my house.

Thank you for your report. This concern has been reviewed by Engineering, Planning, and City Utilities (CBU). At this time, curb installation is not feasible, and there are no near term plans for improvements. The location has been added to Planning’s list for future consideration. We appreciate you reaching out.

Confirmed with CBU and Planning that curbs are not able to be installed. Planning as added it to their list of locations for future projects, but no plans to install in the near future. CBU also noted that they would not be able to install curb, but that the resident is welcome to build up the side of their property to help with runoff. Apologies that we aren't able to do anything at this time to address your concern. John Garzee

Thank you for reaching out and for explaining what you’ve been experiencing. We understand the concern, especially with water flowing down the hill and impacting your property. We have reviewed this location and there are a couple of things going on. The edge of the roadway does appear to be deteriorating, and we will evaluate whether any repair work is needed on the street itself. Regarding curb installation, the City typically does not install curb as a one-off improvement at a single location. Curb is generally constructed as part of a larger project, such as a sidewalk or roadway improvement. This location has been added to our sidewalk request list, and if a project moves forward in this area, curb would be included at that time. In the meantime, property owners are welcome to install curb or other edge protection along their frontage. In some cases, residents have also used landscaping or physical barriers to help manage runoff and prevent vehicles from encroaching. We understand this has been an ongoing issue and will take a closer look at the roadway condition to see what can be addressed. Please feel free to share any additional information or photos, especially during rain events, as that can help with our review.
