Traffic Suggestions:

Other: Can the speed limit be reduced near the entrance of Switchyard Park on S. Rogers Street? This is an entrance to the city's largest park and there will be a pedestrian crossing built that will also cross S. Rogers Street, to the park entrance. Currently, the speed is 30 mph, which will be too fast for a pedestrian crossing and the current busy park entrance. Per City Ordinance 18-09, the speed is reduced on Winslow Rd around Allendale Dr. to accommodate for the pedestrian crossing that is near a city park. Other examples of reduced speed near park entrances includes (but not limited to): S. Highland Ave near Winslow Sports Complex and E. Morningside Dr. near Park Ridge East Park.

Thank you for reaching out and for sharing these examples. I understand the concern, especially with this being a major park entrance and with a pedestrian crossing built across S. Rogers Street. At this time, we are not planning to make an individual speed limit change at this location by itself. However, we are looking at speed limits more broadly around parks, schools, and other locations where there is higher pedestrian activity. This location is one we can include in that broader review. A raised crosswalk has also been installed near the Switchyard Park entrance, which should help make the crossing more visible and encourage slower vehicle speeds at that crossing. I’ll log this concern so it can be tracked as we continue looking at speed limits and pedestrian safety near parks. Thank you again, John
