Request a new Street Light:

Other: Is there a place to request NO new street lights? Or to oppose requests for new and "improved" lighting? There is plenty of evidence that night lighting is harmful, to humans and to animals. There is also evidence that lighting does not reduce crimes. I don't live in a "bright" area of the city, and yet light is all around me at night, including creeping into my house and bedroom even though I have room darkening drapes. I want nighttime and stars back. I can't be the only one, and yet it seems that procedures are set up to favor increased lighting and profits for Duke.

Thank you for your inquiry. Street lighting is prioritized for intersection safety, Unified Development Ordinance standards, and neighborhood requests. As for neighborhood requests for lighting, petitions are sent to adjacent properties for feedback, both in favor or in opposition.
